Welcome To Jovo

Jovo: A frontier of frontiers. Barely-settled, and only attracting attention due to its mineral wealth discovered barely a handful of centuries ago, the world is a haven for those wishing to make a new life, to escape an old one, or just to get rich quick. But while corporate espionage occurs between shell companies, a local detachment of Union representatives attempt to live up to ThirdComm’s ideals the best they can, and certain anomalies have begun to appear across and underneath Jovo’s surface. Between bandits and boom towns, prospectors and profiteers, there’s something more to this world.

As the planet's elliptical orbit drags it farther away from its sun into the coming ice age, change is inevitable. Recent developments have caused contact with the Rubbleborn, the posthuman first settlers of this planet, forced into cybernetic augmentation just to stay alive after a cataclysmic event long, long ago. A nano-virus ravages the native fauna, twisting it into technorganic abominations, disrupting its already-hostile ecosystem.  As Union's 51st century winds to a close, time itself is a force that cannot be stopped.

But not everything is as it seems: this world is not merely a haven for the illicit, but also the outcast, the forgotten, the discarded. It is a refuge for people and places forgotten by the vast cosmos and the grand, inexorable march of time, sheltered by the anomaly at the heart of an undying star. Secrets of Jovo's past- or perhaps future- lie in wait underneath its surface, ripe for the harvest by actors benevolent and malicious alike.

Everyone comes to Jovo for a reason: to start a new life, to escape an old one, or to make it rich.

What's your reason, Lancer?

Khepri Industrial Equipment is a third-party, unofficial supplement for LANCER, intended as part of the larger "Field Guide to Jovo" expansion project. While it contains additional player-facing content, it also provides a sample and primer on the lore that will be included in the Field Guide.

All of the content included in this supplement is subject to change as it develops and is playtested. It is best to think of this as an "Early Access" release, intended to gauge interest in the project.

Built by the Rubbleborn, a group of technorganic cyborgs descended from early colonists of Jovo, the mechs produced by Khepri Industrial Equipment focus heavily on teamwork, synergy, and coordination. Included in this supplement are:

  • 1 New Manufacturer, with 6 Mech Licenses (KIE Firefly, Hercules, Longhorn, Scarab, Stag, and Weevil) with 6 Core Bonuses
  • 6 New Variant Frames (KIE-OWD Beetle and KIE-OWD Coleopteran for the GMS Everest, KIE-OWD Pillbug for the IPS-N Nelson, KIE-OWD Ghost Mantis for the SSC Mourning Cloak, KIE-OWD Cicada for the HORUS Balor, and KIE-OWD Bombardier for the HA Genghis)
  • 7 New GMS Weapons
  • 4 New GMS Systems
  • 6 New Talents: Artisan, Blacksmith, Camaraderie, Martyr, Shieldbearer, and Wrangler
  • 4 New Tags: "Eusocial", "Keen", "HiveMind", and "Bolster"
  • 1 New Status: "Attached"
  • 2 New Conditions: "Blinded" and "Dazed"
  • 2 New Backgrounds: "Rubbleborn (Colonial)" and "Rubbleborn (Autonomous)"
  • A lore primer to introduce the factions, peoples, and history of Jovo and the Tsarina System, primarily focusing on the posthuman Rubbleborn.

This is not an exhaustive list of exactly what is contained in the supplement; more may be added or removed as it develops.

A .pdf of the lore primer is included, but there is also a google doc version that will be updated as constantly as possible. This primer also contains the player facing content such as the Manufacturer, Core Bonuses, Talents, and Mechs contained in the supplement.

DISCLAIMERS:

This is not a project intended for profit, but instead the result of passion. Our team consists of volunteers who just want to create something interesting for the LANCER tabletop system. Any and all proceeds will be used to fund the creation of new art and other freelance work.

Field Guide to Jovo is not an official Lancer product; it is a third party work, and is not affiliated with Massif Press. Field Guide to Jovo is published via the Lancer Third Party License.

GOALS:

  • Continued playtesting and feedback collection/implementation to ensure as balanced of a product as possible
  • Addition of new art to expand on what Jovo and its peoples look like (Partially done)
  • Editing and transferring the Lore Primer into something more akin to that of official Massif Products in terms of format and appearance
  • Set up a Pay What You Want option to allow for donations to the project (Done)
  • Uploading Art Assets/Tokens for use in virtual tabletop (VTT) play (Partially done)
  • Non-English Language Translations

SPECIAL THANKS:

  • Project Awesome, for the setting of Jovo and his blessing
  • Massif Press, for the LANCER Game System and Setting
  • The "Board of Directors" (not actually a board of directors), for their assistance- this project would not have been possible without them
  • Raigmann, for the art

I'm using Comp/Con, and I can't find where the equipment from the Artisan talent is. Are you just supposed to settle with the GM what they do?

(+1)

The latest patch (v.03.3) appears to have broken Artisan. We'll get it fixed by next patch (and Artisan itself is getting a bit of a rework) but we're still not sure when the next update will be released.

In the meantime, you may need to use the .pdf as a reference. I apologize for the inconvenience; it was something we didn't realize was broken until much later after release.

I cannot find anywhere what the Eusocial tag does, is it just a tag that does nothing but that some features interact with?

(+1)

Apologies for the late response.

"Any Action or Reaction granted by an EUSOCIAL system can be activated by an adjacent allied character, as long as you allow them to do so. Eusocial weapons can be used to Skirmish or Barrage by adjacent allies as if they had them installed. The owner spends charges and takes heat generated by the system or weapon as normal, while the user provides its own talents, traits, core bonuses and other modifiers for the instance of use." (Page 34)

Essentially the Eusocial tag allows adjacent characters to use a weapon or system you have installed as if they had it installed; there are some clarifications we want to make in the next update about how that interacts with systems that possess Limited Charges or Systems that can be "charged" (such as stasis bolt).

It is, admittedly, a bit confusing in terms of the sheer amount of edge cases that exist, and this has not been designed with other homebrew content in mind, nor content packs such as Dustgrave (it is, at least, fully compatible with all of the First-Party content not written by non-Massif staff).

I hope that helps.

Hey! Very interesting - though thought you should know the Cicada appears in ll1 for Balor in comp/con!

Yeah, that's a bug we're trying to squash.

Sometimes the bugs are features, other times the features are bugs.

Alright!

It should be fixed with the latest patch, aside from a few other miscellaneous fixes (such as correcting a few old/obsolete fluff elements).

Thank you! Grabbed it yesterday!
